Tips on Choosing the Right Fence

What Type of Pool Fencing is Right for Your Home?

In most areas, you're required to have a fence around a pool on your property, and especially for in-ground pools. It can also be good to have a strong, secure fence installed when you have a pool, legal requirement or not, to keep out neighbourhood children and trespassers who may want to use the pool while you're away. Because there are so many options for pool fencing for your home, note a few tips on choosing the best type and style for your property, and then be sure you take your time in shopping all these choices so you know you'll find pool fencing that's right for you.

Patio and decking materials

Note the patio and decking materials that are close to, or right up against, the home's pool, as the fence will need to coordinate with those materials. If you have a wood deck, it can be very tricky trying to match a wood fence according to species or colour, and you might opt for a neutral glass or metal fence instead. If the decking is painted concrete, a black mesh fence might coordinate with the concrete material, or you might opt for glass to keep the space lighter and brighter and allow in more sunlight around the pool and yard space.

Extra security

If you've very worried about someone trespassing in your yard, opt for a metal fence with sharp, pointed finials at the top, if legally allowed in your area. Metal bars don't offer much of a toehold, and pointed finials are a good deterrent to anyone thinking of climbing a fence. A very tall glass fence is also difficult to climb, and the solid glass panels make it impossible for someone to squeeze through the fence. Be sure you have the glass panels installed with posts between them, or set right up against each other, as some glass panel fences will have gaps between those panels, for air circulation. Ensure your fence contractor knows to keep the panels attached for maximum security.

Privacy

A solid wood or vinyl fence will provide privacy, but also make the yard seem smaller. You might opt for a glass fence and then plant landscaping in front of it, to obscure the view. Thick hedges or flowering bushes can offer the privacy you want, while keeping the yard and pool welcoming and inviting. A solid glass fence also deters neighbours from trying to talk to you through the fence while you're enjoying the pool, also enhancing your privacy.
